I’ve decided to insert a post to update my previous posts about touring bicycles. From the previous posts in might appear that the choices for bikes with which one can travel is limited to pretty traditional designs. This is far from the case as evidenced by this journal at crazyguyonabike. A mountain bike with an Xtracycle attachment obviously is a viable way to carry gear for self supported touring.
So, even though I have my opinions and preferences, it is not to say that there are no other good options for touring bikes.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program!

Thanks for the wealth if information on touring bikes. I currently have a surly LHT and have really likes it. I have take. It on two longer tours – one down the Oregon coast and one down the Mississippi River. I have always found the handle bar distant to the seat a bit far for me. This is apparently a very unique problem as it is known for its upright stance. I am looking at replacing it for another reason though. I can’t get my leg over the top tube without slanting the bike. This has never been a problem but with just having a baby I would like to have the little guy on a seat on back of my bike. Any suggestions for a slanted top tube bike?
Ashley,
Take a look at the Soma Saga if you want a dedicated touring bike or the Soma Buena Vista if you want even more stand over clearance and can get by with a bike for light touring.
