In an earlier post I talked about cable actuated disc brakes on the Long Haul Trucker.
Surly rolls out bikes in new colors each year (or so). They continue to sell bikes in the previous year’s colors until they are gone. For 2014 the new Disc Trucker color is burgundy. We just finished this bike for a customer:

Looks great! Quick question…Would those 26×60 Gilles Berthoud fenders fit a 2013 54cm 26″ Surly Disc Trucker w/Avid BB7 disc brakes? Do they connect easily in front and rear for an unskilled person to attach, or do you have to do modifications?
Steve, for some reason the Bike Hermit’s reply to your question doesn’t seem to be showing here. Yes, they do fit, The Bike Hermit installs them quite often on Disc Truckers.
A question for you. What’s the name of the small piece that is screwed on to the down tube that allows you to screw a barrell adjuster and the end of the top section of gear cable casing into please? I can’t find them anywhere. Thanks
Adam, The Bike Hermit thinks you are referring to the Down Tube Cable Stop. We have them available at $15.00. They aren’t in our online store but can send you a paypal invoice or take care of you over the phone if you aren’t close to our retail store.
Hi,to fit the lower brackets what kind of spacer did you used between the eyelets and the brackets? Thanks.
So looking closer to your pictures you actually put spacer at each brackets to spread the rack to fit the disc caliper. You seem to have kept the rack center with the fork,am I right?Did you just build your own spacers?Looking forward to get your feedback.Thanks.
The Surly racks come with those brackets and with a large assortment of spacers so the racks can be custom fitted to almost any bike.
Hey there just wondering about the sizing for a Disc trucker . How tall was this customer for the 62cm frame ? I am 6 foot 2 with a large Inseam and trying to figure out the size I’ll take . Unfortunately I’m not in a position to sit on any Truckers and check .
Marty, If your PBH measures around 90cm you fall smack dab into the center of the range for a 62cm Trucker. If your PBH is greater than that and your arms are long too, even a 64 might work. If you walked into my shop I would start by fitting you to the 62.
Hi, nice to see your Disc Trucker. It’s very neat and well planned. 🙂
I’m also building one. I’m not sure about the rack, Surly Rack or Tubus Logo Evo Rack. I see your build, you combined Surly and Tubus. What do you think about Tubus Logo Evo rack in the rear? I’m curious why you don’t choose Surly Rear Rack instead to match you front rack. 🙂
Chiellim,
I can’t remember the exact reasoning for mixing the racks but my guess is the customer wanted a front rack with a platform and Tubus doesn’t make one. The Surly racks are large and beefy, maybe a little overbuilt but the front rack plays well with disc brakes too. The Surly rear rack is a little too fussy and has too many bolts that can rattle loose while the Tubus is simple and strong.
